Words of Pride or Praise?

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I was watching a football game last week and one team ran a play that featured a lot of misdirection and several handoffs. The play worked to perfection and a touchdown was the result. Now, the guy who scored was carrying on screaming and pounding his chest and making quite a display of himself. I thought to myself, without everyone on the team doing their part, that play would have never worked.

We often find ourselves exhibiting such behavior of pride, maybe not in such a grandiose manner but it is there. Every now and then we like to boast a little and talk ourselves up- it helps our self esteem. Paul tells us if we are followers of Christ what we should boast about is Jesus.

He is the one who sacrificed his perfect life for us and gave us the opportunity for salvation.

Our Lord was crucified for us and we are called to be crucified to this world, to put away our sin nature. When we understand our need for Christ, we will not boast of ourselves but the One who paid our price for our sins. There is one who is worthy, if we must boast, let us boast of our Lord and Savior.
