“So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.””
1 Samuel 3:9-10 NLT
When do we have time to listen anymore? We are busy people running from one task to another. We create lists and plan our days often months in advance. But, when do we take time to just listen. Listen to those we care about, listen to those who are struggling and in trouble? We often don’t because we didn’t program that level of commitment and caring into our schedule.
Maybe we need to step back and create time and space to just listen. In Samuel, we see the Lord calling to his young prophet but Samuel had to learn to listen. If God calls to us in whatever manner he chooses would we hear him?
Samuel shows us that you have to be available and listen for the Lord- “Speak, your servant is listening.”
Are we still his servant willing to listen for his voice to us? Do we take time to hear from the One who made us and gifted us?
We should be ready to say, speak Lord for your servant is listening. When we hear from him, we will be receiving the very thing we need to succeed!
