Time of Rest

“I cannot eat for sighing; my groans pour out like water. What I always feared has happened to me. What I dreaded has come true. I have no peace, no quietness. I have no rest; only trouble comes.””
‭‭Job‬ ‭3‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I looked at my calendar for the coming weeks and I noticed that I have less time or space on my calendar than I used to. I believe this how most of America live their lives, no space, no time to rest or have moments of peace. Job declared that what he feared, what dreaded has come true. He has no peace, no rest in his life. I think we can all relate to this situation and find our time consumed by our daily grind.

When we have no time, no space, no rest, the quality of our life suffers. We stress about the things in our lives and worry about our situations and conditions. God himself knew the importance of rest, of peace in our lives as he even took a day off to rest. His command to us was to rest on the Sabbath, his day of rest and worship. But we have turned the day of rest into another 24 hours of action and activity. Where is the rest and peace we were told to possess and enjoy?

We have sacrificed our time of rest and refreshment, our time of worship and peace for more activities and a more productive life style. What a lie we have bought! God who made us, knew we needed a time to rest and worship or we would lose the very gifts of his kingdom to being busy.

My prayer today is that we stop and think about our need for rest and peace in our lives. That we return to our time of worship and honoring God on his day of rest. When we do, we will begin to unwind this trap of being busy and find our rest, our peace in God again. Create space in your life to rest and praise your God and you will be refreshed and restored!
