When we enter this world, the greater percentage of us are really focused on one thing – ourselves. This seems to be deeply rooted in our human nature and it brings with it habits and traits we need change such as selfishness and lack of giving to others. Our verse today shows that even our Lord Jesus did not come to be served but to serve others. He came to give of himself even to the point of his own death.
This transition from our focus on ourselves to focusing on others is a true water mark in our being remade in our Lord’s image. If the world still revolves around us, we will find it difficult to truly love others as we should. It is difficult to give to others with a closed hand or closed heart. We have been blessed beyond measure by God with his gift of salvation being the crowning touch. How can we ignore our call to serve and give to God’s work when we have been given such great gifts in our lives.
Being reborn, remade in the image of Christ is a process that we must engage in everyday. He gave up heaven for us to die on a cross. What excuse can we have not to serve and give of ourselves?
