Times of Separation

“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help?”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭22‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In any relationship that we have, no matter how intimate, there will be times when we feel separated from the other person. Our relationship with God will undergo such times of distant feelings. You may think that this may be problem but God uses these times for growing and deepening our relationship with him.

Did not our God say that David was a man after God’s own heart. Yet we see frequent times where David expresses his anxiety and his frustration about the distance he felt between God and himself. Our verse shows one of these times, my God why have you abandoned me! But you see the Lord doesn’t abandoned us, he allows certain times and certain afflictions to deepen our faith and our relationship with him. God wants us to clearly understand couple of things: he wants a deep and abiding relationship with us, but he also wants us to have a mature complete faith in him.

He accomplishes that by having these times of growth, times of faith when we may not feel God at our side, but we know he has not abandoned us. When we know that by past experience that God is faithful, these times of feeling separated from God will actually prosper us and will deepen our trust in him. Like David, we may cry out where are you but in our hearts we will know he has never left us!
