“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”
Romans 8:1-2 NLT
I have found in my life that I still lack the capability of total and complete forgiveness at times. If I have been wronged, even when I feel compelled to forgive the trespass, I find I often have some remnant left over to deal with. Why is it hard for us to lay down the trespasses of others? We find the key in the word. Because it is not the flesh but the spirit of God that frees you from sin.
The word says now there is no condemnation for those who believe in Christ. Jesus himself told us when we pray that we ask for forgiveness of our trespasses as we forgive others of theirs with us. We have moved on from the bondage of sin in the flesh to the freedom of living in God’s spirit. Are we perfect yet- Lord no! But, we are set free to walk in Jesus and to forgive.
Since we have been forgiven, we need to continue to seek to do what God has done for us, no condemnation of others.
We like our brand human forgiveness: partial or conditional forgiveness. But, that is not what we have received! We were forgiven period. Christ took our sin, no more stain or condemnation. Let us strive to offer others what Jesus has provided us, total forgiveness. Then my friend we will be free indeed.
In Christ
