Busy Versus Being Productive

“And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?””
‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If we have tasks to accomplish it usually goes much better if we understand what we are to do and how to make that happen. We call that having direction and focus. The better our focus is the more productive we can be. Now being focused should not be confused with being busy. Being busy can easily take away our ability to focus, to be really productive.

Enter our time with God! Are we so busy so that we miss the very words, the direction God is trying to give us. Although God has tremendous power and presence, we find he often speaks to us in the small things like a whisper. Why? Because wants our attention and our focus. He is giving us just what we need when we need it but we have to pay attention so we can get the details right. Our word today, Elijah was at a critical time in his service to the Lord. He needed the direction and encouragement only God could give him. It did come by power or mighty events, it came by way of a whisper.

We will need to focus on what God has to say to us but we must first seek him! If we are too busy to hear him we will not be productive nor effective in our service nor our lives. As Elijah needed to hear the whisper to then go and do God’s calling, we too need to hear God whisper to us so we may be doing his will. True blessings come from our relationship with God. Knowing his will, hearing his whisper will lead us to great things he has called us to accomplish.

So don’t be so busy that we miss our Lord. Listen for that whisper that will make all the difference in the world to your life.

In Christ
