“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”
1 Timothy 6:6-8 NIV
There is a great race being run in most of our society today. The name of that race is called materialism. We seek more and better and that pursuit becomes our passion. I know all about building a life that has all the trappings of security and comfort. But I have also seen in my life where that pursuit of goods caused me significant harm at times. We want more so we work more, spending our family time at work, not with our family. We sacrifice to get ahead but often lose sight of when is it enough. I have found that more, is just more at times and not better than we were before.
We are told by Paul that living a godly life and being content are great gain. In our journey, if we learn to be content where we are, our lives will benefit in many ways. We can still be focused, live with purpose and take advantage of our opportunities so we can move ahead the right way. Being content doesn’t mean we give up on dreams but simply having the right perspective on true happiness. Paul also brings us to reality. We came into and will leave this world with nothing. Our greatest possessions are those we stored up serving our Lord- they are eternal!
Rather than judge your success by what you have, judge it by the gifts you have received from God and then turned and blessed others as well. Being truly content shows that we are trusting God with our lives and our future. Amen
In Christ
