Live a Life Worthy of Your Salvation

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There was a great action movie out a few years ago called “Saving Private Ryan”. The plot of the movie was that a certain family had lost a number of sons to the war and an order went out to rescue the last surviving son serving in France. A squad of men were formed and they went to rescue the last Ryan son. While they were successful, several of the squad members died in the effort. The Sargent in charge, was dying and charged Private Ryan to live a life worthy of the sacrifice that had been paid for his life.

We find ourselves in the very same position with Jesus. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for us who believe in him by dying for us. Paul tells us, urges us, to live a life worthy of the calling, the price paid for our salvation. Our redemption did not come cheaply or due to something that was a common gift. Our salvation cost the son of God his very life. He who knew no sin became sin for us. When we understand that we could have never earned this gift of redemption, we begin to see the great love God has for us by sacrificing his own Son.

We as believers should be compelled to live a life for Christ that is worthy of the gift of eternal life we have been given by God’s grace! Private Ryan at the end of his life gave tribute to those who died for him and spoke to the graves of those men, saying “I hope my life was worthy of your sacrifice for me!” Can we also say to our Lord, I strive to be worthy of your sacrifice for me?

In Christ
