“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.”
Philippians 3:20-21 NIV
Everyone of us has a worldly identity. We were born into a certain family, lived in a certain city or community. We grew up in a certain timeframe and had our own experiences. There are things we like to do, certain things we are talented in and things we believe in. We have had our own relationships and formed bonds of friendship along the way. All these factors helped to determine our identity here in the world and thus shaped our destiny.
Well, the same can be said of the believers of Jesus the Christ. We were reborn in this world to a different family, a different set of values. We are being transformed from who we were into a new creation in our Savior. Instead of a life that offered little hope, we now have an eternal hope in Jesus. We are no longer prisoners of sin but have been set free by the blood of the Son of God. We no longer face condemnation and eternal suffering but have been made conquerors and adopted into the family of God never to be separated from him!
You see our identity has been changed. We are told that we are now citizens of heaven not earth. We are God’s children now, given a heritage of his glory and holiness. We are no longer tossed by life’s events but are becoming warriors and ambassadors for the kingdom of God! Our hope is the return of our Savior and the transformation of our bodies into his likeness forever. Our glory is now found in his unmatched splendor. Our future is his future! We no longer bound by our limits but are called to greater things in his power and glory.
We now are identified in Christ and have a destiny located in heavenly realms. No longer do we dread tomorrow but look expectantly toward our days glory!
In Christ
