“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
Isaiah 53:5 NIV
When we hit a wall in our lives, run smack in the middle of a true life crisis, we often ask ourselves why me?Somehow, someway we may think that because we are a Christian, a good person there will be no trials in our lives. Got news for you, no one is exempt from suffering. The verse today tells us about the suffering Jesus Christ went through and He is God’s Son.
I want you to focus on two things today. First is the benefits listed with his suffering, peace and healing. Secondly, this can be a powerful witness to others who themselves are suffering . He was innocent but suffered for us. His suffering brought us the great hope of salvation and eternal life. Our suffering can testify to God’s great love for us and his everlasting promises of eternal life with him. This is a focus on healing and redemption not on our afflictions that only our Lord can supply to us. I believe it is ok to express your anger and displeasure about your trials to God just be like Job, faithful in the end. Even in the midst of pain, we can have hope, we can have a trust because we do have his love.
Suffering in this world is inevitable, but it should not capture our hope and peace when it comes. No, we need to press into the one who died for us. He knows all about true suffering and can see us through our pain and darkness. Remember, he is the one who brought us healing and restoration and victory!
In Christ
