Don’t Be a Fool with your Words

“Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.”
‭‭James‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When I survey our world, I find that our society takes little ownership in the real truth of the words they speak. Quite the opposite. We have those who spin circumstances and events to fit their agenda or purpose. We have others who pedal division and hate as a way of gaining favor oblivious to the damage they are causing to the lives of others. Most seem to only be concerned about their profit rather than wisdom of their words.

Our words can be like a loaded gun ready to be fired or a match poised to start a fire. Both applications are for destruction rather than healing and restoration. James tells us the truth about our tongue, our words here in this verse. We make many mistakes and display our foolishness by the caviler words we speak. We have what is called “good intentions “ but end up causing pain and suffering. It should not be so.

If we could control our tongues, we could control ourselves in every way. That fact seems to almost humanly impossible. So my friends we should very vigilant in our efforts to not display our foolishness before others by the words uttered in haste or by emotions.
Take time to think about what you would say before ever saying it. It will keep you from being a fool and causing needless suffering! It is indeed hard to do, but the rewards are more than worth while!
