“In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
1 John 5:3, 5 NIV
There is a well known company that uses the advertising slogan- just do it! They are calling potential customers to enter into a new life of action, style and obedience to fitness. Instead of thinking about doing what they say is very beneficial for you, you need to just to decide to do it. This tact of advertising claims a lot of its value and wisdom from our scripture today. If you love God, keep his commands- for they will prove to not be burdensome but a major blessing.
These verses go on to show us that only those who believe in Christ as the Son of God will overcome the world. Can we see the value then being linked to Christ in obedience? By just doing what Christ commands us to do, we enter a new life that is founded upon Christ and his glory. Christ tells us that He has overcome the world and when we obey, we inherit that same victory over the darkness.
So when God asks something of you, don’t ponder the request, don’t delay, just do it!
In Christ
