Resentment Makes for Foolish Actions

“When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you.”
Psalms 73:21-22 NIV

When we find ourselves resentful or frustrated, we find these times are when we act foolishly. Resentment to others brings about emotional feelings that can lead us far from the path our Lord desires us to take. We often fail to use wisdom and compassion in these situations making them inherently worse.

Today’s truth tells us that when we become embittered, we act without sense – ignorant of what should truly be done to deal with our emotions. David called himself a brute beast for his actions. This kind of response to our resentment will not move us toward healing and restoration but further away from any real resolution.

In these situations we need God’s wisdom, His presence and His compassion in our lives. When we replace our brutish emotions, our bitterness with God’s wisdom and love, our resentment begins to fade. God has called us to be His light in the world, called us to a higher standard than just bitterness – called us to love others!

Next time, push into God when those emotions come to you and see how different the situation and you look because of it! You can avoid looking foolish.

In Christ
