“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?”
Mark 8:35-37 NLT
These scriptures ask the very direct question of what is worth more than your soul? The answer is nothing. What benefit do we gain from all our earthly pursuits if we in process lose our soul. Jesus is laying out the narrow path to salvation here. You need to lose the life of this world, this life of sin, bondage and loss. Only we can lay our lives down at the cross, only we can submit to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
In the flesh, we think this is a process of losing things of great value but a greater lie does not exist for we gain everything good instead. Instead of damnation we receive grace and mercy. Instead of eternal pain and suffering we receive joy and peace beyond measure. Instead of bondage we are set free. In that freedom, we will find the glory and the substance of a God who loves us and is our eternal Father. The formula is: lose your old sin life, trade it in for one with Christ who will redeem and restore you. When we submit to our Lord, all of creation is opened up to us for we have been set free to become heirs to the kingdom of God.
There is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain! Submit your life to him and be free forever!
