So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.””
Genesis 1:27-28 NIV
Don’t you find at times that it easy to feel anything but important, full of purpose? Especially when you feel that in many ways you are just a number to our society. Then there are the times when your opinion matters little to others around you or old age takes your health, independence and your dignity. When we struggle for a sense of significance we should remember one promise of God about who we are: you were created by God in his own image to rule over this earth.
God created us to an extension of himself here on earth. No other piece of creation has that distinction nor promise of authority. Now his work of shaping us in his image is an ongoing process but never doubt we are of his likeness. We bear the indisputable traits of our Father: how about love, grace , forgiveness, kindness a pursuit of true wisdom and a sense of eternity. When we seek him something wonderful emerges- God begins to come out in us!
You are made in the image of God to accomplish his good purpose in your life. Nothing is in all creation possesses that relationship with God. His promise to us to rule over this world as his people still applies. As the Psalms say, you Lord formed me, I will praise you for I am fearful and wonderfully made! Never doubt that in the throne room of heaven you are special for you bear the glory of God in being.
In Christ
