Prayer – a Privilege of God

“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
‭‭James‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

One of the things we must do in our walk with Christ is to pray. Fellow Christians and others often ask if we would pray for them because they are in a time of trouble or sickness. Jesus told us we should be people of prayer and not be anxious, but in everything pray. Our prayers can impact circumstances in our lives and the lives of others if we pray in faith, not just words.

These scriptures tell us that there is healing, restoration and forgiveness in the act of prayer to our Father. Pray for each other so that you may be healed. The faithful prayer is our part and the healing and restoration is God’s part. We must not grow tired or complacent in our prayers for they are the very life to the throne of God, for us and others. James then tells us why we should pray in faith- because the prayers of the righteous in Christ are powerful and effective.

I have seen such power and effectiveness in prayer too many times to think anything but that statement is absolutely true! As believers, we are given both the privilege and opportunity to pray for others and ourselves. We are simply being faithful to give our Father access to our circumstances and then glorify him for his actions. Never tire of the privilege of prayer, it is an awesome gift from God to restore us and heal us!
