“throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT
Human nature likes it when we have control and power to direct our lives. We should be decisive people, standing on our beliefs and living life in ways that truly prosper us. But, we need to very careful that our focus in life is not us but the Lord we serve. We are here to serve and worship the God of all creation, the God who loves us beyond measure.
When we stray into the worldly idea of me first, we can easily be on the path of thinking we are number 1 in our lives: we know better, we are strong enough, we can do this thing all on our own. We are setting ourselves up to be a god rather than to be godly. God’s desire for us is to be transformed from our fallen nature into one that takes on his characteristics, to be renewed.
We are throw off your old ways not put up with them. We are to put on the new nature of God, to be like God not trying to replace him. God’ purpose for us is to transform us from a lost people to those who have become heirs of the kingdom. He desires us to be like him, walk like him, love him and to trust in him with every detail of our lives.
Seek to be like God and delight yourself in his great love for you. Stop trying to be a god and let the Father transform you into a godly son or daughter in his kingdom. The difference is like light and darkness!
